Oracle 10g Partition Maintenance Operations (PMOP)
With the 10g release, certain enhanced partition
maintenance operations are possible. For a typical partitioned
materialized view, the following operations are allowed.
- TRUNCATE
PARTITION
- DROP PARTITION
- EXCHANGE PARTITION
Let's see a few examples of these partition
operations.
ALTER
MATERIALIZED VIEW claims_mv
TRUNCATE PARTITION month_0102;
ALTER
MATERIALIZED VIEW claims_mv
DROP PARTITION year_2001;
ALTER
MATERIALIZED VIEW claims_mv
EXCHANGE PARTITION year_2001 WITH TABLE sales_2001;
These enhancements avoid the need to execute
ALTER TABLE statements directly against the materialized view
container table to perform these three PMOPs.
